My first meal back in Philly after the holidays. I was craving a burger, so I walked down to Chestnut & 16th to try Five Guys Famous Burgers and Fries, which I'd heard so much about from all of my DC friends.
Five Guys isn't that new (opened August 2006 I believe) but it was new to me. They have two types of burgers, one type of fries, and sodas. Very basic. Fast-food style, but a step up from Mickey D's or BK. You have to watch when they make the burgers; it's like the Subway of hamburgers. You tell the cashier which of the 10 toppings you want on your burger, and then the burger maker puts them on the bun, just like at Subway.
So there are two sizes of burgers: little & regular. I ordered a 'little' thinking it would be like a kids burger at McD, but it turned out to be the exact same size as a regular, just with one meat patty instead of two. Both the burgers and fries were awesome and addicting (the fries came with bits of peel still on, so you could tell they were from real potatoes).

I agree. The best burgers and fries I've ever had
Five Guys burgers are really excellent. I like that mushrooms are a free topping and that they leave the skins on the fries.
Well written article.
