More Korean food: Miran

Miran
2034 Chestnut St
Philadelphia, PA 19103

Banchan. Kim chee. The smell of meat marinated in shoyu, ginger and garlic being grilled. Sticky rice in those silver bowls with lids on them. Ginger, garlic, shoyu, sesame oil and sesame seeds. I love going to eat Korean bbq.

That said, I am never going back to Miran. I walk past there almost every other day and heard decent things about the food there. We went on a Saturday night after the Pennyo a cappella concert. We walked in and got the last table available, which I thought was a good sign (although there were no Koreans in the restaurant, which should’ve been a warning sign . . .)

We ordered bi bim bap, kal bi, tofu soondubu, and chap jae (not on the menu, we had to convince the waiter to let us order it. Now I know why it’s not on the menu; it was awful. All oil and onions. Hardly any glass noodles. Gross)

Didn’t take any photos, but it’s just as well since I recommend avoiding this place if at all possible. Go to Pastoral; it's only a few blocks away.

For the best Korean food in Philly, you need to go to the Olney area of Philadelphia!
