So far, Melograno is my favorite Italian BYOB in the city. Located on a quiet center city corner in a residential neighborhood, the restaurant unassumingly serves up great Tuscan meals. Although melograno translates to 'pomegranate' in English, I unfortunately didn't see any pom dishes on the menu (I also don't see them as the type to follow food trends such as pom though...)
We started with the antipasto platter and the roasted shiitake mushroom. The platter’s spread of ham, salami, goat cheese, roasted veggies, and olive and tomato bruschettas took me back to the Spanish Steps in Rome and the unbelievable meal we had there.
Main dishes include grilled scallops, grilled chicken with white beans and bacon, and beet ravioli. The most spectacular was the ravioli: gorgeous ruby color, creamy goat cheese, and no strong beet flavor. The scallops were simple but complex in flavor, a chewy, mild base for the roasted artichokes they came with.

The restaurant space is a bit tight, and they are always running late even with reservations, but Melograno is a great place for a date or celebratory dinner.

I have been to many wonderful restaurants all across the nation so I know good food, and good service when I see it. I have to say, Melograno was in one word, Pathetic. My party of 5 was treated poorly from the moment we entered the restaurant. We were told to exit after 2 hrs because the table was needed for another group. The waitress was breathing down our necks to order, and to hurry up with our wine so that we could leave. The owner was horribly rude and I would never eat there again. The food was mediocre. Mercato beats this place ten fold. Do not eat at Melograno if you are interested in having a nice dining experience.
I ate at Melograno with my friends and we were treated so poorly by the hostess/owner. Apparently, she is in need of some customer service skills. We were paying customers and you don't treat people rudely when they choose your restaurant over the hundreds of others in the city. She was extremely snobby. We will never go back there. Maybe the owner should have told us when we got there that there was a "2 hr limit" to eat. Never again.
I had to comment after reading the last two comments, which seemed to be from the same party. I have eaten at Melograno 6 times and while it does get very crowded and the wait can be a pain, I have yet to be disappointed with any experience, culinary or service wise. I have also dined at Mercato, which is also very good; I'd rate Melograno a cut above though. On the weekends, go early to avoid a crowded wait, weekdays are much easier to get seated within 15 minutes. My personal "don't miss" item is the mushroom pappardelle, always fantastic!!
