Pancakes, French toast, eggs and sandwiches…yet this is no ordinary diner. Located halfway between Center City and Old City, Morning Glory is a cult-like beloved brunch spot. We arrived at 1 pm on a Sunday and waited about 20 minutes for a table in the tiny diner.
There were too many tempting options on the menu. While they offer all of the brunch staples, they clearly have a clever chef who adds a twist to each item. For example, French toast with caramelized mangoes and bananas ($7.50), frittata with pesto, fresh mozzarella and tomatoes ($8), or a croquet monsieur ($7.50) instead of a regular grilled cheese sandwich.
I was torn between the above mentioned frittata, a berry shortcake, or pancakes with fresh fruit. The server also recommended the salmon frittata. I went with the pesto-mozzarella-tomato frittata. It was fine, but not the best I’ve had. What was fantastic, however, was the biscuit it was served with. Buttery, dense, strong baking powder flavor.
Oh, can’t forget. Morning Glory makes their own ketchup…interesting fact, huh? Unfortunately I thought it was a little watery, but still great idea. They also put exotic hot sauces on each table, always a bonus in my book.
